The Beaver Valley Tutoring and Counseling Service began as the Beaver Valley Tutoring Service in 1988. It was founded by Janet Podnar, a veteran school teacher, who conceived the idea of beginning a service in Beaver County to meet the needs of students who were looking for additional academic help outside the classroom. She had visited a similar business in Virginia while attending graduate school, so upon returning to Beaver Valley, Ms. Podnar started The Beaver Valley Tutoring Service with herself and a listing of 12 other teachers. In 1993 when Ms. Podnar received a Master of Arts degree in Professional Psychology, counseling services were also added, and the new Beaver Valley Tutoring and Counseling Service was born.

Our tutoring service offers one-on-one instruction to students who may be struggling in a particular academic subject or school discipline. We also help students prepare for particular tests, such as the SAT.
Our counseling service provides help and support to individuals, couples, and families who are struggling with relationships, grief, parenting skills, dealing with the past, or facing the future.
